Not on My Watch

Quite frankly, I have become something I never wanted to be.Warrior for Truth and Coffee

I always believed in God. I always knew everything I was “supposed” to know. But I always said “I will never become one of those people who rams their beliefs down other people’s throats”. I had experienced enough born-again types to know how annoying they could be, and how over the top they were.

Until I met Jesus.

Yes, I know how that sounds. Humor me.

In the Bible, Saul is travelling down the road to Damascus, on his way to persecute, harass and jail a few of those annoying people. Yeah, Christ followers weren’t all that popular back then either. But on his way to Damascus, Paul literally gets struck by a lightning bolt, and Jesus says “HEY! What do you think you are doing?” (slight paraphrase). With his name officially changed to Paul, this man who hated the Christians becomes the greatest evangelist for Christ to ever live. Talk about a guy who didn’t expect the change in his career path! But Christ, when you meet Him face to face, has a tendency to change everything.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

My Damascus Road was in my living room. I was living a life like most…I was a good person. I went to church. Yeah, I messed up but so did everyone. And I often proclaimed “I cannot beleive in a God that would send me, or anyone, to hell”. I remember distinctly making faces behind the back of this guy who talked about God all the time. I mean really, brother. Give it a break. Telling me that I didn’t understand how to get to heaven. Puh-leez. “Born again” was a phrase to be made fun of; those crazy people who had non-alcoholic weddings and didn’t allow their kids to watch Harry Potter.

John 3:3
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ”

Yes, Jesus came and talked to me in my living room. He set me straight and told me the truth. You know what? Even if that sounds crazy to you, I will bet that you have met, along your way, others like me who seemingly fell into a big vat of crazy-Jesus-freak juice. God places us everywhere, and if you are familiar with the Bible, He doesn’t pick His messengers based on credentials – from Moses to me, we are all a bit messed up, lost and otherwise coasting through life until He decides to use us. And guess what? I really didn’t know how to get to heaven – at least not the way Jesus explains it in the Bible, which may surprise you. But it seems to me that if the Son of God said it, it carries some import.

Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

But why did He pick me to become the born again type? Because of you.

Scattered throughout every person’s life are a few of us. The ones who are over the top. Who use a Facebook page for constant God-speak. I am going to let you in on a little secret. God is allowing me to look a bit foolish to the world so He can speak to His own. Because for every person who is annoyed by my evangelism, two more have written to me, seeking desperately for God’s assurance of salvation. They are desperate to KNOW the truth. And God is making sure they have someone to hear it from. In His awesome way, He is making sure that you hear His truth. He is trying to reach you. Are you listening?

I no longer care if you think I am annoying. All I care about is that you know His truth and you can go home to heaven one day.

Galatians 1:10
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

You think I am over the top? Trust me, eternity away from God is over the top. HELL is over the top. And you aren’t going to hell on my watch, not if I can help it.

I know, you didn’t believe you were going to hell anyway…but the Bible is clear – most will NOT make it to heaven! Verse after verse in the bible speaks of the multitudes who thought they were Christ’s church. They thought they were going to heaven. But He says “I never knew you”.

We must be missing something, right? If only a few make it, most are not being taught the truth of God’s word. Heaven is a Kingdom, and Jesus is the King. Whether or not you agree with His rules of engagement is irrelevant. He is the King.

Your “get-out-of-hell-free card” is Jesus. He is the only way. I am compelled to speak it because I cannot bear the thought of all the deception and misinformation sending people I love to a horrific place they never had any intention of going to. God doesn’t send you to hell. But He does require you to choose heaven, on His terms. And those are the only two choices.

Matthew 7:14
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Learn the life and words of Jesus. If you think I am over the top, you do not know Him. If you did, you could not be silent either. I have been radically saved, not only for my benefit but because He loves YOU.  I am but a megaphone. Praise God for His love and mercy – He is seeking you today. Please listen to Him and jump on the narrow road. There is room for us all.

2 Corinthians 5:14
For Christ’s love compels us
