Proverbial Wisdom

Proverbs 13:13

He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded.

I know a lot about buying real estate. I have specialized in the buyer side of the deal exclusively for 6 years now, eschewing listings in order to become a specialist in inventory, values, neighborhoods and opportunities. When my clients call, I listen to their lifestyle, I listen to their family situation, and I find them the perfect neighborhood. Often I find them a home in a neighborhood they were not even considering. Watching a client realize that they would not have found their dream home if not for my in depth knowledge is a rush.

I have also been involved in a lot of buyer transactions. I know how the banks work with short sales and foreclosures. I can assure you that the general public, no matter how “informed” by Zillow, simply has no clue what a mess it all is.  They have been misled on so many levels, with so much bad information, it is remarkable.

Time after time, the very same people who sought me out because of my expertise, ignore my advice on how to proceed.  It is maddening, really.  I warn them ahead of time that  the action they are considering will likely end in heartbreak.  However, they see something they want.  And they don’t care if I assure them the road ahead is ugly,  and has a bad end. They think they have got it under control.

When they lose a home they really want, and their heart is broken – it will be because they did not heed wise advice… not because the advice was not afforded them.

Proverbs 4:13 Hold on to (His) instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life

How often do I challenge the Lord’s Word in thought or deed?

How often do I get angry at someone when He tells me it will result in malice, or refuse to forgive when He commands it?

How often do I trust my own feelings, heart and desires over the advice of a loving, all-knowing Father God?

How often do I operate under the junk information the world offers, instead of His expert guidance?

And how often do I crawl to Him in tears when I lose?  I have to admit, the answer is … “too often”.

Proverbs 30:5  Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

The way to stay safe in the real estate market is to seek out an expert, one who has a flawless record of success, and trust their word and wisdom. Follow advice even if to you, it seems counter-intuitive.

The way to stay safe in life is to seek the Lord, who has never forsaken you. He has not lost one battle, He does not have one enemy that can stand against Him. He cannot be fooled, He cannot be wrong. Follow His advice even if to you, it seems counter-intuitive.

It’s why you sought Him out, right? So trust His wisdom.

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

No matter how many times we don’t listen, He will never give up on us.   Trust Him, and you will get the perfect life for you.

It may not be what you expected, but He cuts through all the bad information and functions in truth.  And He operates in neighborhoods that you never even knew existed.

Proverbs 8:9-11 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
